The 16th International South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) conference aims to assemble postgraduate researchers, academics, and industry professionals from Southern Africa and beyond to discuss apposite subjects and advance the built environment professions
Based on the trajectory of the 15th conference theme which focused on navigating disruption, collaboration, and sustainability and looking ahead to 2026, the built environment will likely be grappling with deeper digital integration, climate adaptation imperatives, and evolving professional competencies.
The quantity surveying profession is being reshaped within a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment driven by rapid technological change, climate pressures, and evolving societal expectations. Volatility and uncertainty stem from digital disruption and shifting market conditions, while complexity and ambiguity arise from integrating sustainability and multi-stakeholder demands. Technologies such as AI and data analytics are transforming cost management and project delivery. At the same time, climate imperatives are expanding the role to include whole-life and low-carbon decision-making. Consequently, quantity surveyors are increasingly required to deliver integrated, ethical, and value-driven built environment outcomes.
The conference theme: Reimagining Quantity Surveying: Digital Innovation, Climate Resilience, and Social Impact in a VUCA World.
